Historical and Revision Notes
Subsection (a) is derived from 14 U.S.C. 5, andsubsection (b) from the second sentence of 14 U.S.C. 3. These provisions are duplicated in this title for the purpose of producing a statement of the general powers of the Secretary of the Navy in this important area.
Amendments
2002—Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 107–296substituted “Secretary of Homeland Security” for “Secretary of Transportation”.
1980—Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 96–513substituted “Secretary of Transportation” for “Secretary of the Treasury”.
Effective Date of 2002 Amendment
