alternative reproductive technology (ART)

Also known as assisted reproductive technology, it is an alternative to traditional reproduction, used by persons who are infertile.  It is also an umbrella term that encompasses in vitro fertilization, sperm donation, ovum donation, a surrogate carrier etc.
