as is

Primary tabs

“As is” refers to a term used in sales contracts where the buyer agrees to buy a product in its current condition, without legal recourse should the buyer discover a defect in the product after purchase. The buyer should be able to view and inspect the good before they purchase it, so they are generally aware of the item’s condition.

Selling an item as is will disclaim implied warranties on an item but it will not disclaim express warranties. So, if the buyer expressly guarantees the condition of an item through their description, the seller may have legal recourse if the item does not meet that description.

As is contracts are often seen in used car and house sales.
