conditional SSI payments

Primary tabs

Conditional supplemental security income (SSI) payments give SSI recipients payments when they have non-liquid resources that push them over SSI resource limits. Under SSI, recipients must remain below a certain threshold limit on resources to receive benefits because SSI is meant to serve low-income elderly or disabled citizens. Conditional SSI payments occur if recipients pass that threshold because of non-liquid assets, but the recipients must repay the conditional SSI payments unlike other SSI. The recipients have up to nine months to sell the property or other non-liquid resources to pay off the conditional payments. If after selling the assets the recipient falls back under the threshold, the recipient can begin receiving regular SSI payments again subject to other SSI requirements.
