stayaway order

Primary tabs

Stay away order is a form of restraining order in which a court orders someone not to go within a certain distance of another person or place. Like other restraining orders, a stay away order generally is given when someone has experienced or has reason to fear physical and emotional harm from the party receiving the order. Stay away orders are to be contrasted with no contact orders. No contact orders normally require the person to stay away and not attempt any form of communication of the other party. No contact orders can be issued when someone harasses a person or endangers the welfare of a minor.
