Recreational vessel

Recreational vessel has the meaning given in 46 U.S.C. 2101 , but excludes passenger vessels and small passenger vessels as defined by 46 U.S.C. 2101 (22) and (35) and excludes vessels used solely for competition. In general, for this part, recreational vessel means a vessel that is intended by the vessel manufacturer to be operated primarily for pleasure or leased, rented or chartered to another for the latter's pleasure, excluding the following vessels:
(1) Vessels of less than 100 gross tons that carry more than 6 passengers (as defined in this section).
(2) Vessels of 100 gross tons or more that carry one or more passengers (as defined in this section).
(3) Vessels used solely for competition.
