Law 1009 of 2006 through which the Gender Affairs Observatory is created on a permanent basis.

This law promoted the creation and establishment of a women and gender affairs observatory (Observatorio de Asuntos de Mujer y Género). The purpose of the observatory is to identify and select a system of gender indicators, to analyze gender data, and to monitor public and private plans and programs to suggest improvement on policies and regulations aiming for gender equity in Colombia.

Law 823 of 2003 on equal opportunities for women.

This law establishes rules that further develop equal opportunities for women in Colombia. It establishes guidelines for the design of public policies that foster and guarantee the full exercise of women’s political, civil, economic, social, and cultural rights, and the free development of their personality, capacities, and aptitudes. The law also appoints the institutions responsible for their execution.
