Decree No 13 of 2006 organizes and regulates the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Rights, Ministère de la Condition Féminine et des Droits de la Femme (MCFDF), by recognizing its role in formulating and implementing government policy for gender equality and the advancement of women. The Ministry is empowered to develop and coordinate policies, conduct research, combat discrimination and violence against women, promote women’s participation in all sectors, and ensure the integration of gender perspectives into national policies.
The National Gender Policy is The Gambia’s most recent strategic policy framework for promoting gender equality and women’s rights in The Gambia. The Policy explicitly identifies gender-based violence, harmful traditional practices, limited access to education and health, economic inequality, and the lack of representation in decision-making processes as key obstacles to women’s empowerment and sustainable development in The Gambia.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (“the CMU”) and the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy (“the Commissioner”) introduced this amendment to help strengthen the executive branch’s implementation of gender equality in all spheres of society. Furthermore, the Commissioner organizes the performance of the CMU's powers in ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men in all spheres of society.
