Constitution of the Dominican Republic of 2015

The Constitution sets forth the Dominican Republic’s fundamental principles, values, norms, and guarantees. Various constitutional precepts establish equality between men and women. Article 55 establishes the equal right to marry and form a family with both spouses having the same rights and obligations. Article 62 provides for equal rights in terms of work, including the type, quality, quantity and retribution for work performed.

Law on Labor Protection of Women (1996)

This law establishes that Superior Courts must guarantee that women constitute at least 20% of all judge minister positions, and maintain that same minimum percentage among all judges, notaries, registrars, and other judicial officials. This ensures that a minimum of 20% of all high-level judicial positions and court staff in the Superior Courts are occupied by women. 

Judgment C-101/05 Constitutional enshrinement of gender equality (2005)

The Constitutional enshrinement of gender equality clarifies that the right to marry or remarry is a fundamental right, regardless of sex. The Court also held that wills and testaments requiring a woman to remain single or widowed were unconstitutional.
