La Ley nº 21.400/2022 modificó la Ley de Matrimonio Civil para eliminar la restricción de que el matrimonio sólo pueda celebrarse entre un hombre y una mujer. Con esta reforma, Chile reconoció legalmente el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo, otorgándoles los mismos derechos y obligaciones que a los matrimonios heterosexuales, en materias como herencia, adopción y acceso a prestaciones de seguridad social. La ley prohíbe expresamente la discriminación basada en la orientación sexual, la identidad de género o la expresión de género, garantizando que todas las personas, independientemente de su identidad u orientación, tengan derecho a casarse y a recibir un trato igualitario ante la ley.
