17 AAC 50.010 - Construction of public buildings accessible to persons with physically disability

A person, department, or agency responsible for the construction of a public building or facility by or for the state (including the University of Alaska) or its political subdivisions shall assure that the public building or facility is accessible to and usable by persons with physically disabilities. As the standard to meet this requirement, the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities adopts by reference and makes a part of this chapter of the Alaska Administrative Code the American National Standard Specifications for Making Buildings and Facilities Accessible to and Usable by Physically Handicapped People,approved March 3, 1980 by the American Standards Association, Incorporated under the sponsorship of the National Society for Crippled Children and Adults and the President's Committee for Employment of the Physically Handicapped and the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities' associated amendments dated December 12, 1980.
