Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 13, § 227.16 - Identification of Autonomous Test Vehicles
(a) A manufacturer shall not operate an
autonomous test vehicle on public roads unless the manufacturer has provided the department, in writing, the identification of the autonomous vehicle
to be used for testing on public roads. For each vehicle so identified, the manufacturer shall provide to the department all of the following:
(1) The make, model, and model year of the vehicle, or other identifying information if such is not
available.
(2) The full vehicle identification number, or other identifying information if such is not
available.
(3) The license plate number and state of issuance.
(b) Each document identifying autonomous vehicles for testing shall be signed by a person authorized by the
manufacturer to bind the manufacturer, under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of California.
