Ill. Admin. Code tit. 89, § 300.90 - Time Frames for the Investigation

The following activities must be completed within the time frames indicated, except as exempted in Section 300.110(d). The time the report was received at the State Central Register begins the investigative process.

a) In-person contact with alleged child victim or in-person examination of the environment for inadequate shelter and environmental neglect reports only or in-person contact with mothers of infants who are hospitalized with controlled substances in their systems. Contact with mother of hospitalized infants shall be in the environment in which the mother intends to reside with the infant. Good faith attempt/Begin the initial investigation. The investigation shall begin immediately if the child is believed to be in immediate danger of physical harm or it is likely that the family may flee with the child.

b) In-person contacts with the alleged perpetrator, the children's caretaker and the alleged child victim if not completed sooner

c) Begins the Formal Investigation (Written)

14 days

d) Final Investigation Report (Written)

60 days

e) Preliminary Investigation Report - If a 30-day extension to the formal investigation is necessary

60 days
