Iowa Admin. Code r. 641-144.8 - Transport options for air medical services
(1) Upon responding to an emergency call, air
medical services may make a determination at the scene as to whether air
medical transportation is needed. The determination shall be made by a medical
crew member and shall be based upon protocol and concurrence of medical control
approved by the service program's medical director When the medical crew member
applies this protocol to determine the appropriate transport option, the
following criteria, as a minimum, shall be used:
a. Primary assessment;
b. Focused history and physical
examination;
c. Chief
complaint;
d. Name, address and age
of the individual in need of emergency assistance; and
e. Nature of the call for
assistance.
(2) Air
medical transportation shall be provided whenever any of the above criteria
indicate that treatment should be initiated. If treatment is not indicated, the
air medical service program shall make arrangements for alternate
transportation, if indicated.
