Iowa Admin. Code r. 761-607.51 - Determination of gross vehicle weight rating

(1) Actual weight prohibited. In determining whether the vehicle is a representative vehicle for the skills test and the group of commercial driver's license for which the applicant is applying, the vehicle's gross weight rating or gross combination weight rating must be used, not the vehicle's actual gross weight or gross combination weight. For purposes of this rule, "gross weight rating" and "gross combination weight rating" mean as defined in 49 CFR Section 383.5.
(2) Vehicle without legible manufacturer's certification label. To complete a skills test using a vehicle that has no legible manufacturer's certification label, whether a power unit or towed vehicle, the applicant must provide documentation of the vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating, such as a manufacturer's certificate of origin, a title, or the vehicle identification number information for the vehicle. In the absence of such documentation, the vehicle may not be used, either alone or in combination.

This rule is intended to implement Iowa Code section 321.1.
