02- 031 C.M.R. ch. 980, § 3 - Definitions
For purposes of this Rule, the following definitions apply:
A.
"Customer "
means an individual who has an ongoing relationship with a regulated
insurance entity under which the regulated insurance entity provides one or
more insurance products or services to the individual that are to be used
primarily for personal, family or household purposes.
B.
"Customer information"
means any nonpublic personal information as defined in the Gramm-Leach-Bliley
Act, 15 U.S.C. §
6809(4), or personal
information as defined in the Maine Insurance Information and Privacy
Protection Act,
24-AM.R.S.A.
§2204(20), whether in
paper, electronic, or other form, that is maintained by or on behalf of a
regulated insurance entity and relates to a customer or former customer of the
regulated insurance entity.
C.
"Customer information systems" means the electronic or
physical methods used to access, collect, store, use, transmit, protect, or
dispose of customer information.
D.
"Service provider " means a person that maintains, processes,
or otherwise is permitted access to customer information through its provision
of services directly to a regulated insurance entity.
