105 CMR, § 150.600 - Corridors
(A)
Corridors.
(1) Corridors in areas used primarily by
residents in nursing homes shall not be less than eight feet wide. Corridor
width in all other corridors shall comply with 780 CMR 10.00: Means of
Egress and International Building Code section 1018.2.
(2) Existing corridors in an HB/LTCF may be
retained as long as they are at least four feet wide.
(B) Handrails shall be provided on both sides
of corridors. Handrails shall be firmly anchored and shall not project more
than 31/2 inches into the required minimum width of the corridor and shall be
no less than 30 inches above the finished floor. They shall have curved
returns.
(C) A facility shall not
permit the installation of any fixed appurtenance with may become an obstacle
to traffic or reduce the required minimum width of corridor, ramp or
stair.
