205 CMR 12.01 - General
(1) Owners, trainers, and their assistants
shall humanely treat all greyhounds in their possession or under their
control.
(2) All greyhounds shall
be properly cared for on a daily basis. This shall include a physical
inspection of the greyhounds for sores, cuts, abrasions, fleas, ticks and
assuring adequate a sufficient supply of food consistent with the dietary
requirements and nutritional needs for the age and weight of the
greyhounds.
(3) Kennel facilities
shall provide for the safe and humane housing of greyhounds.
(4) Greyhounds shall be provided with potable
water in the exercise areas at all times.
(5) The trainer of each kennel shall be
responsible for the proper maintenance, upkeep and sanitary condition of the
kennel, crates, and all exercise areas. The associations shall make every
effort to promptly address maintenance issues brought to their
attention.
(6) A sufficient number
of employees shall be used to provide the required care of the greyhounds and
maintenance of the facilities. The owner of the kennel or other supervisory
personnel shall be present at least once in each 24-hour period to supervise
and to ascertain that the care of the greyhounds and the maintenance of the
facilities conform to all rules.
(7) The commission shall investigate all
complaints regarding inhumane treatment of greyhounds.
