310 CMR, § 22.10 - Alternative Analytical Methods
(1) With the
express written permission of the Department, given after a public hearing and
the approval of the Administrator or the Administrator's designee, an alternate
analytical technique may be employed for any analytical technique prescribed in
310 CMR 22.00. The Department shall give such permission only if the
alternative technique is substantially equivalent to the prescribed test in
both precision and accuracy as it relates to the determination of compliance
with any maximum contaminant level. The use of the alternative analytical
technique shall not alter the frequency of monitoring required by 310 CMR
22.00.
(2) The Department shall
approve all USEPA Alternative Testing Methods approved for analyses under the
Safe Drinking Water Act that are identified in 40 CFR 141, Subpart C, Appendix
A. These methods are also listed at

The use of these alternative analytical techniques shall not alter the
frequency of monitoring required by 310 CMR 22.00 and laboratories seeking to
use the methods must comply with all requirements of 310 CMR 42.00:
