N.J. Admin. Code § 16:53-1.19 - Steps
(a) The first step
at the right side center door area shall not be more than 16 inches from the
ground when the van-type autobus is unloaded.
(b) The surface of all steps shall be a
nonskid material.
(c) A van-type
autobus having a front entrance door of 74 inches or more in height shall have
a step height at that location not to exceed 16 inches (unloaded) and shall
also be equipped with an entrance handle.
(d) Steps shall not extend beyond the body
limits to a degree that could result in bodily injury or property
damage.
