N.J. Admin. Code § 16:53-8.8 - Chassis and body construction
(a) The
chassis and body, or the complete sedan-type autobus unit, shall be so designed
and constructed that it will properly and safely support the gross weight of
the sedan-type autobus, including the maximum passenger capacity thereof. The
gross vehicle weight rating shall not exceed 10,000 pounds.
(b) No extensions of the manufacturer's
standard chassis frame will be permitted except as set forth in (c)
below.
(c) Alteration of the
wheelbase or the standard chassis frame shall be permitted when such alteration
is performed by the chassis or unit manufacturer or by others provided that a
certification of approval has been issued by the original chassis or unit
manufacturer. An extension may be installed at the rear end of the original
chassis frame by the chassis manufacturer or by others provided that a
certification of approval has been issued by the original chassis manufacturer.
Such certification shall contain a detailed description of the alteration or
extension.
(d) The gross vehicle
weight rating certified by the manufacturer and the gross vehicle axle weight
shall be set forth on a data plate that is affixed to the sedan-type autobus in
a location that is readily visible for inspection. At no time shall the gross
vehicle weight rating be exceeded.
(e) Each sedan-type autobus shall be equipped
with front and rear bumpers attached to the main frame of the
chassis.
