N.J. Admin. Code § 17:10-5.9 - Service retirement; eligibility
A member becomes eligible for "service" retirement on the first of the month following the month in which the member satisfies the conditions of retirement for age and service. If the member's birthday falls on the first of the month in which the member becomes eligible for a service retirement under any of the options specified at N.J.S.A. 43:6A-8and 9, the retirement shall become effective on that date, provided it is the retirement date indicated on the member's retirement application.
