Ohio Admin. Code 3361:50-27-01 - Degrees and certificates: general university policy
(A) Degrees and
certificates shall be granted by the board of trustees to, and conferred by the
president on, candidates recommended by the respective college and school
faculties. They shall be conferred at the end of each full term of the academic
year or on special occasions, and may be conferred in absentia upon
recommendation of the appropriate dean and with the approval of the
president.
(B) All diplomas and
certificates shall be signed by the chairperson of the board of trustees, the
president of the university, the secretary of the board of trustees, and the
dean of the college or school of the recipient, and the seal of the university
shall be affixed thereto. The several colleges may themselves award, to degree
recipients only, testimonials attesting to the completion of a specified set of
courses within programs approved by the board of trustees.
(C) Honorary degrees and other honors and
awards may be granted by the board of trustees on recommendation by the
president of the university, assisted by a committee on university honors, said
committee to be appointed by, and advisory to, the president.
(D) Certificates of completion may be awarded
as verification of participation (attendance) in non-degree credit courses,
workshops and programs by the academic unit offering such courses, workshops,
or programs.
