Ohio Admin. Code 3701-62-07 - Emergency medical services personnel; compliance with DNR protocol
(A)
If emergency medical services personnel , other than
physicians, are presented with DNR identification possessed by a person , or are
presented with a written do-not-resuscitate order for a person , or if an
authorized health care provider directly issues an oral do-not-resuscitate
order for a person to emergency medical services personnel other than
physicians, the emergency medical services personnel shall comply with the
do-not-resuscitate protocol for the person .
(B)
If an oral
do-not-resuscitate order is issued by an authorized health care provider , who
is not present at the scene, the emergency medical services personnel shall
verify the authorized health care provider 's identity. Methods of verification
include but are not limited to the following:
(1)
Personal
knowledge of the authorized health care provider by emergency medical services
personnel;
(2)
A list of authorized health care providers with other
identifying information such as addresses; or
(3)
A return
telephone call to verify information provided.
(C)
In an emergency
situation, emergency medical services personnel and emergency department
personnel are not required to search a person to determine if the person
possesses DNR identification.
