Or. Admin. R. 340-073-0070 - Unsealed Earth Pits for Privies
(1) The pit must be constructed with material
and in a manner to prevent rapid deterioration, provide adequate capacity, and
facilitate maintenance under ordinary use.
(2) Unless otherwise approved by the agent,
the pit must provide a capacity of 50 cubic feet for each seat installed in the
privy building and must be at least 5 feet deep. The area within 16 inches of
the surface grade may not be counted as part of the 50 cubic-foot
capacity.
(3) Pit cribbing must fit
firmly and be in uniform contact with the earth walls on all sides and must
rise at least 6 inches above the original ground line and descend to the full
depth of the pit. Pit cribbing below the soil line may be omitted in rock
formations.
