(1) When a patient is transferred between
hospitals, the transferring hospital is paid on the basis of the number of
inpatient days spent at the transferring hospital multiplied by the Per Diem
Inter-Hospital Transfer Payment rate.
(2) The per diem inter-hospital transfer
payment rate = the DRG payment divided by the geometric mean length of stay for
the DRG. The geometric mean length of stay is reported in the DRG tables on the
Division website.
(3) Payment to
the transferring hospital will not exceed the DRG payment.
(4) The final discharging hospital receives
the full DRG payment.
