S.D. Admin. R. 20:45:02:07 - Length of time an unembalmed body may be kept

An unembalmed body may be kept no longer than 24 hours from the time of death. Within 24 hours from the time of death, the body shall be refrigerated, embalmed, cremated, or buried in the ground. Any deviation from the foregoing requirements may only occur by an order of a court of competent jurisdiction or written directive of a coroner.
