S.D. Admin. R. 20:80:05:10 - LAC academic and work experience requirements

An applicant for LAC shall meet the following requirements:

(1) Have a minimum of a master's degree in a behavioral science field, evidenced by transcript, from an accredited post secondary institution;
(2) Have a minimum of three semester hours and a grade of "C" or higher in each of the following specialized education courses, with a minimum of five courses at the graduate level:
(a) Addiction counseling theories and techniques;
(b) Psychopharmacology or psychopathology;
(c) Legal, ethical, and professional standards;
(d) Case management and assessment of co-occurring disorders;
(e) Treatment planning;
(f) Clinical supervision; and
(g) Multicultural competency; and
(3) Have a minimum of 2,000 hours of supervised work experience specific to the alcohol and drug counselor domains, including detailed documentation for a minimum of 300 hours of supervised practical training experience in the 12 core functions with a minimum of ten hours in each core function.
