S.D. Admin. R. 61:15:07:18 - Flame retardant treatments

In buildings or rooms used for assembly purposes, stage curtains, valances, leg drops, Christmas trees, and any decorative material exceeding 10 percent of the wall area that would tend to increase the fire and panic hazard must be made from material which is not flammable or must be treated by means of flame-retardant solution or an equivalent process approved by the authority having jurisdiction. Treatments used to accomplish flame retardation must be renewed as often as necessary to maintain the flame-retardant effect. Exit doors, exit lights, fire alarm stations, hose cabinets, and fire-extinguisher locations may not be concealed or obstructed by decorative material.
