W. Va. Code R. § 61-1B-4 - Registration Tags

4.1. Registration tags shall be manufactured of metal or some other suitable substance of a permanent nature and designed with a hole in each end one sixteenth (1/16) of an inch in diameter, so that it can be safely and securely attached to the animal's collar. The tag shall bear the imprint "West Virginia Dog Tax," the county, year and serial number: Provided, That any assessor in any county in the state who has forms or tags previously prescribed by the Commissioner of Agriculture be allowed to use the same until the present supply is exhausted, at which time the forms and tags designated by the regulation shall be procured and used. Dogs shall wear a valid registration tag at all times.
4.2. The registration tag number shall be recorded on the Certificate of Registration.
4.3. Municipalities may prescribe their own registration tags for dogs, but they must be clearly distinguishable from those issued by the Commissioner.
