2010—Pub. L. 111–281amended section generally. Prior to amendment, section required Secretary to include with the annual budget various reports and other materials in support of the budget.
2002—Par. (4). Pub. L. 107–296substituted “of Homeland Security” for “of Transportation”.
Effective Date of 2002 Amendment
Amendment by Pub. L. 107–296effective on the date of transfer of the Coast Guard to the Department of Homeland Security, see section 1704(g) ofPub. L. 107–296, set out as a note under section 101 of Title 10, Armed Forces.
Pub. L. 104–324, title II, § 208(b),Oct. 19, 1996, 110 Stat. 3913, provided that: “Not later than March 1, 2000, the Secretary of the department in which the Coast Guard is operating shall submit to the Congress a report on the use by the Secretary of the authorities provided by chapter 18 of title 14, United States Code, as added by subsection (a). The report shall assess the effectiveness of such authority in providing for the construction and improvement of military family housing and military unaccompanied housing.”
