contemnor

Primary tabs

A contemnor is a person who is found to be in contempt of court. A party becomes a contemnor by ignoring/disobeying a court order. Contemnors are subject to court sanctions and punishments.

If the contemnor is held in civil contempt of court, they can avoid sanctions entirely by complying with the initial court order. If the contemnor is held in criminal contempt of court, they are subject to sanctions regardless of whether they ultimately choose to comply with the court order or not.
