The purpose of special restorative training is to overcome, or lessen, the effects of a manifest physical or mental disability which would handicap an eligible person (other than a person made eligible under subparagraph (C) of such section ^[1] by reason of a spouse being listed in one of the categories referred to in that subparagraph) in the pursuit of a program of education.

Amendments

2006—Pub. L. 109–461, § 1006(b), provided that as of the enactment of Pub. L. 109–461, the amendments made by Pub. L. 109–444were deemed for all purposes not to have taken effect and that Pub. L. 109–444ceased to be in effect. See Amendment notes below and section 1006(b) ofPub. L. 109–461, set out as a Coordination of Provisions With Pub. L. 109–444note under section 101 of this title.

Pub. L. 109–461, § 301(b)(4), substituted “(other than a person made eligible under subparagraph (C) of such section by reason of a spouse being listed in one of the categories referred to in that subparagraph)” for “(as defined in subparagraphs (A), (B), and (D) of section 3501 (a)(1) of this title)”.

Pub. L. 109–444, which substituted “(other than a person made eligible under subparagraph (C) of such section by reason of a spouse being listed in one of the categories referred to in that subparagraph)” for “(as defined in subparagraphs (A), (B), and (D) of section 3501 (a)(1) of this title)”, was terminated by Pub. L. 109–461, § 1006(b). See Amendment notes above.

2001—Pub. L. 107–103substituted “subparagraphs (A), (B), and (D) of section 3501 (a)(1) of this title” for “section 3501 (a)(1)(A) of this title”.

1991—Pub. L. 102–83renumbered section 1740 of this title as this section and substituted “3501(a)(1)(A)” for “1701(a)(1)(A)”.

1980—Pub. L. 96–466inserted “(as defined in section 1701 (a)(1)(A) of this title)” after “person”.

Effective Date of 2006 Amendment

Amendment by section 301(b)(4) ofPub. L. 109–461applicable with respect to a payment of educational assistance for a course of education pursued after Dec. 22, 2006, see section 301(d) ofPub. L. 109–461, set out as a note under section 3501 of this title.

Effective Date of 1980 Amendment

Amendment by Pub. L. 96–466effective Oct. 1, 1980, except as otherwise specifically provided, see section 802(c) ofPub. L. 96–466, set out as a note under section 3452 of this title.

An empty field implies a standard amendment.
"new" means a new section or new note, or all new text of an existing section or note.
"nt" means note.
"nt [tbl]" means note [table].
"prec" means preceding.
"fr" means a transfer from another section.
"to" means a transfer to another section.
"omitted" means the section is omitted.
"repealed" means the section is repealed.

Sections with change type "new" are a special case, still under development. All are now listed, at the title level only.

You will find that occassionally a specific update you notice in a Public Law listed in a classification table will already have made it into the Code. We assume this is an artifact of the LRC edit process. The LII does not edit the LRC content.
