Trafficking in persons

Trafficking in persons, or human trafficking, involves the recruitment, transport, or harboring of individuals through coercion or deception for exploitation, including sexual slavery and forced labor. This topic area includes statutes, case law, international treaties, and advocacy tools focused on gender-sensitive prevention and anti-trafficking efforts.

Act to Combat Human Trafficking, Haiti

The Act to Combat Human Trafficking of Haiti defines trafficking broadly to include exploitation such as forced labor, forced marriage, non-consensual sexual imagery, and other forms of sexual exploitation. It establishes a National Committee to coordinate anti-trafficking efforts, victim protection, and promote public awareness. The law provides for psychological, medical, social, and legal assistance to victims, including special protections for children and vulnerable groups.

Alberta Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Roadmap

The Alberta Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Roadmap (Roadmap) is a 2022 guide by and for the Alberta, Canada government for initiatives designed to address the disproportionate violence and economic hardships that members of the Indigenous community experience. The Roadmap is Alberta's response to the Canadian Government’s National Inquiry in Missing and Murdered Women and Girls (aka National Inquiry). The Roadmap has four pathways.

Anti-Human Trafficking Act

This Act prohibits human trafficking and establishes protective measures for the victims of human trafficking. It establishes a Human Trafficking Prohibition Committee to oversee the implementation of the Act and calls for the establishment of centers for victims and the creation of a victims’ fund.

Anti-Human Trafficking Legislation in Tanzania and 6 Countries Around the World

In 2008, Tanzania adopted the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act (ATPA) to combat human trafficking, mandate stricter investigation and prosecution, and afford protection to victims of trafficking. This report: explains and evaluates the ATPA, including the effectiveness of its implementation since its enactment in 2008; describes similar acts around the world, including an evaluation of those laws’ implementation and effectiveness; offers specific recommendations for Tanzania to enhance the effectiveness of its anti-trafficking law.

Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act

This Act criminalizes slavery in all forms and provides protection and support for victims of trafficking. As defined by the Act, "'exploitation' includes, at the minimum, induced prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation, forced marriage, forced or bonded services, or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of human organs." The definition of trafficking is comprehensive and defined in Part 2, Section 5(3) of the Act.
