Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Article 9 of the FDRE Constitution provides that all international treaties ratified by Ethiopia are integral parts of the law of the land. Similarly, Article 13.2 provides that fundamental rights and freedoms shall be interpreted in a manner conforming to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenants on Human Rights and International instruments adopted by Ethiopia. Ethiopia has ratified many of these treaties including ICCPR, ICESCR, and CEDAW. Article 35 of the FDRE Constitution pertains to the Rights of Women.

Institutional Violence Against Women (Docket XXVII.1o.3 C (10a.))

This isolated thesis is a relevant example of gender perspective case law, as the criteria issued by the collegiate tribunal is binding on all cases resolved by such tribunal. In addition, such criteria issued may be persuasive in similar cases arising in other federal courts. The Inter-American Convention on the Prevention, Punishment and Eradication of Violence Against Women “Convention of Belém do Pará,” states that violence against women is an offense against human dignity, which constitutes a violation of fundamental rights.

Law No. 30709, Law that Prohibits Pay Discrimination Between Men and Women, Peru, 2017

The objective of Law No. 30709 is to prohibit pay discrimination between men and women who have the same type of job. The law requires companies to keep charts detailing job categories, operations, and applicable payment. It recognizes that an employer must guarantee dignified work and a nondiscriminatory work environment. It also specifies that employers must guarantee protection against sexual harassment.

Louisiana Revised Statutes § 46:2181 et seq. Protection for Victims of Sexual Assault Act

Louisiana’s Protection for Victims of Sexual Assault Act sets forth a streamlined civil process designed to assist survivors of sexual assault in obtaining immediate legal protection, regardless of whether the perpetrator is a stranger or an acquaintance. In recognizing that sexual assault is both a significant public health issue and a serious violation of personal safety, this Act allows eligible victims to seek temporary restraining orders through an expedited process based on evidence of sexual assault.

R. (on the application of GA) v Secretary of State for the Home Department, England and Wales High Court (Administrative Court) 2021

A mother and her children, who were all British citizens living abroad, sought judicial review of a refusal by HM Passport Office (“HMPO”) to process passport applications for three of the children. The children's father was from "Country X". The mother moved there when they married, and the children were born and habitually reside there. The father was prosecuted for severe domestic violence and abuse of the mother.

Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Act 2024

The Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Act 2024 establishes the legal framework for the UK’s policy of relocating certain migrants to Rwanda, affirming Rwanda as a "safe country" and limiting legal challenges to removals on safety grounds. The Act mandates that decision-makers, including courts and immigration officials, treat Rwanda as safe, disapplies relevant provisions of the Human Rights Act 1998, and restricts judicial review of removal decisions.

Submission to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women on Ireland’s combined sixth and seventh periodic reports (January 2017)

Ireland is a party to CEDAW, to which Ireland acceded in 1985.  Ireland also committed to having its record under the Convention reviewed periodically by the UN’s CEDAW Committee. Ireland was examined by the CEDAW Committee in February 2017 for the first time since 2005.
