5 AAC 47.030 - Methods, means, and general provisions - Finfish
(a) Unless otherwise provided in

AAC 47.021,

AAC 47.055, or by emergency order issued under
AS
16.05.060, the provisions in this section
apply to finfish sport fishing in the Southeast Alaska Area.
(b) Sport fishing may be conducted only by
the use of a single line per angler, and not more than six lines may be fished
from a vessel.

(e) Upon request by a
representative of the department or a peace officer of the state, external tags
on all salmon and trout and the tags and heads of all adipose-fin-clipped
salmon and trout must be forfeited, and the date and location of their catch
must be disclosed.
(f) Fishing
within 300 feet of a fish ladder is allowed unless otherwise posted by
department markers. No person may fish from, on, or in a fish ladder.
(g) Repealed 5/31/2009.

(i) Only unbaited, artificial lures may be
used in fresh water from November 16 - September 14.
(j) Notwithstanding

AAC 75.026, in the Southeast Alaska Area, pink and
chum salmon taken in a sport fishery may be used as bait in a sport, personal
use, or subsistence fishery.
(k)

(l) A person
sport fishing from a charter vessel when releasing a nonpelagic rockfish shall
immediately use a deep water release mechanism to return the fish to the depth
it was hooked or to a depth of at least 100 feet. A charter vessel must have at
least one functional deep water release mechanism on board and readily
available for use when sport fishing activities are taking place. Upon request,
a person sport fishing from a charter vessel and the operator of the vessel
must present a deep water release mechanism must be presented to a local
representative of the department, or a peace officer of the state, or federal
law enforcement officer changed with enforcing fish and game laws. In this
subsection, "deep water release - "mechanism" means a device designed to return
a rockfish back near the bottom where it was hooked, or to a specified depth,
and to assist the fish in recompression and to improve the fish's chance of
survival. Beginning January 1, 2020, a person sport fishing from a vcssel and
the operator of the vessel must comply with the requirements of

AAC 75.020(f).
