002.01.24 Ark. Code R. 110 - 08.09 Dogs Locating Wounded Game Restrictions
It is unlawful to use dogs to locate wounded big game, except in accordance with these requirements:
A. No more than 2 dogs may be used
simultaneously to locate wounded big game.
B. Dogs may run on or off lead; dogs run off
lead must be equipped and monitored with devices that allow remote tracking and
behavior correction through auditory or physical stimulation.
C. Only weapons legal for that hunting season
in compliance with Codes 06.02 and 06.03 are allowed to dispatch wounded big
game with the exception of a legally possessed handgun. The handgun barrel
should not exceed 6 inches and the chambered caliber should not exceed .45
caliber. If tracking a wounded big game animal after legal hunting hours, the
tracker and hunter may use artificial light to aid in locating the animal. If
the animal is found alive, it may be dispatched only with archery tackle or a
legally possessed handgun with a barrel not exceeding 6 inches, and the
chambered caliber should not exceed .45 caliber.
D. Hunter orange must be worn during seasons
requiring it.
E. If the wounded big
game travels off of the property where it was legally shot, the hunter must
obtain documented permission from any and all landowners to cross or enter
their property to retrieve the animal.
F. The hunter must be present during
recovery.
