Physical Attacks on State
Employees
I.
POLICY
OF DEPARTMENT:
To treat as criminal acts all physical assaults by inmates on State employees, volunteers or visitors. Such acts are subject to prosecution by the Prosecuting Attorney of the county where the institution or facility is located.
II.
EXPLANATION:
A. It shall be the responsibility of each
employee to make a written report, to his/her supervisor, concerning incidents
of the above nature. Furthermore, other employees who witness such assaults
will be expected to document such information to the
Warden/Administrator.
B. It is the
right and duty of an employee to protect self and others in the event of an
attack.
C. The Warden/Administrator
will report such incidents to the appropriate Deputy/Assistant Director and
Internal Affairs Administrator, who in turn will coordinate prosecution with
the Prosecuting Attorney's office.
