Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. R. 160-1-4-.323 - Rural Teaching Apprenticeship Grant

1. Purpose of Grant Program. The purpose of the Rural Teaching Apprenticeship Grant is to support the development and expansion of registered teaching apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships in rural Georgia by providing funding for the instruction, mentorship, and supportive services needed to create and sustain a registered teaching apprenticeship program. The creation of registered teaching apprenticeship programs will address educator shortages by filling teacher pipelines through a new pathway to become an educator.
2. Terms and Conditions. Eligible LEAs interested in this competitive grant must submit an application. Grant funds must be used to develop or expand in rural Georgia pre-apprenticeship programs or registered teaching apprenticeship programs under the Georgia Department of Education's (GaDOE) Registered Teaching Apprenticeship Program (GaRTAP). To that end, grant funds must be used for costs associated with designing and implementing GaRTAP, costs associated with pre-apprenticeship programs, or extraordinary costs of on-the-job training. Grant funds must also be used to support the expansion of Teaching as a Profession and Early Childhood Care & Education pathways in rural high schools. Additionally, grant recipients have reporting requirements. Grant recipients must register the number of apprentices for which grant funding was awarded by submitting a Form 671, annually submit the GaRTAP LEA Attestation form, provide on a quarterly basis programmatic data, submit the Completion Report in GaDOE's Grants Accounting Online Reimbursement System, and annually provide a report that details the expenditures per apprentice.
3. Eligible Recipients. LEAs that are an approved employer under GaRTAP and are located in a county that has a total population of less than 35,000 are eligible to apply.
4. Criteria for Award. Applications will be reviewed and scored by GaDOE. The amount of funding awarded to each LEA will be based on the number of pre-apprentices and apprentices that the successful applicants will support, demonstrated needs, and alignment to the purpose of this grant.
5. Directions and Deadlines for Applying. Eligible applicants must complete and submit the electronic application located online on the GaDOE Grant Opportunities webpage. Information regarding the deadline will also be on the GaDOE Grant Opportunities webpage. All additional requests for information should be made to gartap@doe.k12.ga.us.
