Haw. Code R. § 11-216-6 - Requirements for accessibility to public buildings, facilities, and sites - additions and alterations
(a) Additions and
alterations to existing public buildings, facilities, and sites, including
qualified historic public buildings, facilities, and sites, shall comply with
this chapter.
(b) Each addition to
an existing public building, facility, or site shall comply with the
requirements for new construction.
(c) Where existing elements or spaces are
altered, each altered element or space shall comply with the applicable
requirements.
(d) In alterations,
where compliance with applicable requirements is technically infeasible, the
alteration shall comply with the requirements to the maximum extent
feasible.
(e) An alteration that
decreases or has the effect of decreasing the accessibility of a public
building, facility, or site below the requirements for new construction at the
time of alteration is prohibited.
(f) An alteration of an existing element,
space, or area of a public building, facility, or site shall not impose a
requirement for accessibility greater than required for new
construction.
