Haw. Code R. § 12-45.2-144 - Tanks abandoned in place

Section 66.2.5.5.4 is amended to read as follows: "Tanks may be abandoned in place only if a certified structural engineer confirms that the removal of the tank will jeopardize the structural integrity of the existing building. An affidavit attesting to this determination shall be submitted to the AHJ prior to taking abandonment measures. Tanks abandoned in place shall be abandoned as follows:

1. Flammable and combustible liquids shall be removed from the tank and connected piping,
2. The suction, inlet, gage, vapor return and vapor lines shall be disconnected.
3. The tank shall be filled completely with an approved, inert solid material.
4. Remaining underground piping shall be capped or plugged, and
5. A record of tank size, location and date of abandonment shall be retained by the owner and a copy submitted to the AHJ."
