Haw. Code R. § 13-184-6 - Criteria for designation of subzones
The board, in designating an area as a geothermal resource subzone, shall be guided by the selection of those areas that can demonstrate an acceptable balance among the criteria set forth below:
(1) That the area has potential for
geothermal development activities;
(2) That there is a known or likely prospect
for the utilization of geothermal resources for electrical energy
production;
(3) That any potential
geologic hazards to geothermal production or use in the proposed area are
examined;
(4) That any
environmental or social impacts of the development of geothermal resources
within the proposed area be considered;
(5) That the compatibility of development and
utilization of geothermal resources within the proposed area is considered with
other allowed uses within the area and within the surrounding lands;
and
(6) That the potential benefits
to be derived from geothermal development and utilization in the proposed area
be in the interest of the county or counties involved and the State as a
whole.
