Haw. Code R. § 13-251-6 - Examination of applicants
(a) The department
shall examine every applicant for an operator permit, except as otherwise
provided in this section. The examination shall include a test of the
applicant's knowledge of this chapter and shall include an actual demonstration
of the applicant's ability to exercise ordinary and reasonable control in the
operation of catamarans, canoes, surfboards, sailboards, or commercial
motorboats, as the case may be, and such further written, physical, and mental
examination as the department feels is necessary to determine the applicant's
fitness to operate a catamaran, canoe, surfboard, sailboard, or motorboat
safely upon the Waikiki or Kaanapali ocean waters as appropriate; provided that
applicants for learner steersperson permits shall not be required to pass the
canoe surfing test.
(b) The
department may issue without examination an operator permit to any person
applying therefore who furnished evidence satisfactory to the department that
the person is not disqualified under this chapter and that the person has
previously been issued an operator permit by the department.
