Haw. Code R. § 17-401.1-27 - Transportation services
(a) Transportation
means travel and related expenses that are necessary to enable an applicant or
eligible individual to participate in a VR service, including expenses for
training in the use of public transportation vehicles and systems. Examples of
expenses that would meet the definition of transportation include:
(1) Travel and related expenses for a
personal care attendant or aide if the services of that person are necessary to
enable the applicant or eligible individual to travel to participate in any VR
service; and
(2) Relocation
expenses incurred by an eligible individual in connection with a job placement
that is a significant distance from the eligible individual's current
residence.
(b)
Transportation services are subject to the use of comparable services and
benefits provisions of section 17-401.1-13 and the use of personal resources
(financial needs test) provisions of section 17-401.1-14.
(c) The following additional conditions apply
to the provision of transportation services:
(1) The transportation allowance shall be
adjusted when the individual is excessively absent from a training
facility.
(2) A gas allowance for
use of a private automobile may be provided where public transportation is not
readily available or is inappropriate due to the individual's disability. The
allowance shall not exceed the maximum rate per mile allowable for State
employees in the BU-13 collective bargaining agreement.
(3) The most economical public means of
transportation available which meets the individual's needs shall be
used.
(d) The purchase
of motorized vehicles including cars, trucks, vans, and motorcycles is
prohibited.
(e) Other
transportation services not prohibited, may be provided with supervisory review
and approval and documentation supporting the decision in the division's record
of services for the individual.
