Haw. Code R. § 17-534-31 - Rental unit requirements

A dwelling unit approved by the authority for use as a rental unit shall meet the following requirements:

(1) Have its own sanitary facilities which are in proper-operating condition, can be used in privacy, and are adequate for personal cleanliness and the disposal of human waste;
(2) Have suitable equipment to prepare, serve, and store foods in a sanitary manner;
(3) Provide adequate space and security;
(4) Be structurally sound so as not to pose any threat to the health and safety of the occupants;
(5) Be usable and capable of being maintained without unauthorized use of other private properties, and the unit shall provide an alternate means of egress in case of fire;
(6) Be in a sanitary condition and free of vermin and rodent infestation; and
(7) Comply with all laws, ordinances, codes, rules and regulations of the federal, state, and county governments.
