Haw. Code R. § 19-133.2-36 - Inspection of exhaust system

(a) Exhaust system components shall be inspected for condition, damage, installation, leakage of gases, missing or exposed parts.
(b) No certificate of inspection shall be issued if the exhaust system components are leaking, not securely fastened, required component parts are missing, equipped with exhaust cut-outs or by-pass or similar devices, the muffler emits excessive noise, or exhaust gas is not exiting beyond the passenger compartment, unless such exit was designed by the original motor vehicle manufacturer.
