Haw. Code R. § 19-170-112 - Heights
The following building elements or features may exceed the height limits prescribed in subchapter 7:
(1) Structures housing or screening necessary
mechanical appurtenances of the building on which they are erected;
(2) Necessary utilitarian features including
stairwell enclosures, safety railings, ventilators, and skylights;
(3) Decorative or recreational features,
including cornices, rooftop gardens, planter boxes, flag poles, spires,
cupolas, or ornamental towers;
(4)
Roof-mounted radio or television mast antennae and roof-mounted dish antennae;
and
(5) Energy-saving devices,
including heat pumps and solar collectors.
