Ill. Admin. Code tit. 20, § 720.100 - Fire Protection
a) Based on
the size of the facility, there shall be at least one fire extinguisher
installed in the basement and on each floor for each 5,000 square feet of floor
area.
1) Extinguishers shall be readily
accessible to staff but not to detainees. The local fire department shall be
contacted regarding the location, type, and number of fire extinguishers
required.
2) Extinguishers shall be
examined not less than once each year and tagged with the date of inspection
and initials of the inspector.
3)
All jail personnel shall be familiar with the characteristics and operation of
all types of extinguishers in the facility.
b) Emergency exit doors shall be clearly
indicated with at least 41/2 inch block lettering stating "Exit" in all capital
letters; their location shall be made known to all jail personnel; and the keys
for the doors shall be immediately available to jail staff. There shall be at
least two exits from each floor of detention.
