Ill. Admin. Code tit. 35, § 506.207 - Construction in a Karst Area
a)
A new earthen livestock waste lagoon constructed in a karst area must
be designed to prevent seepage of the stored material to groundwater. Owners or
operators of proposed facilities must consult with the local soil and water
conservation district, the University of Illinois cooperative extension
service, or other local, county, or state resources relative to determining the
possible presence or absence of such areas. [510 ILCS

b) Any lagoon subject to this Subpart,
constructed in a karst area, must be designed and constructed utilizing a rigid
material such as concrete or steel.
c) The owner or operator of the earthen
livestock lagoon may, upon written request and with written approval from the
Department, modify or exceed the standards of this Section to meet site
specific objectives. The owner or operator must demonstrate that such
modification will be at least as protective of the groundwater, the surface
water, and the structural integrity of the livestock waste management facility
as the requirements of this Part.
