Kan. Admin. Regs. § 71-10-1 - Definitions
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings specified in this regulation:
(a) "Dental hygiene student" means a person who meets the
following requirements:
(1) Has completed at least one semester of full-time dental
hygiene education, including all pre-clinical courses, at an educational
institution. For purposes of this article, "pre-clinical courses" shall mean
the courses that are a prerequisite to academic clinical courses; and
(2) is currently enrolled as a student at an educational
institution and is not currently licensed by the Kansas dental board.
(b) "Educational institution" means a dental hygiene school
approved by the board that has obtained approval from the board to operate an
educational program, pursuant to K.S.A. 65-1423(a)(9) and amendments thereto,
in which dental hygiene students will perform dental hygiene.
(c) "Supervising dental hygienist" means a dental hygienist who
meets the following requirements:
(1)
(A) Has an active license to practice dental hygiene in
Kansas; or
(B) is eligible to be licensed in Kansas and has an application
to be licensed in Kansas pending;
(2) has faculty status with an educational institution;
(3) has been assigned to a department of the educational
institution and has agreed in writing to use the department's objectives in
supervising and evaluating the work of the dental hygiene students supervised;
and
(4) has agreed in writing to confer as necessary, but at least
annually, with the department chair and educational institution administrators
to ensure that the educational activities supervised by the supervising dental
hygienist are being conducted to achieve the educational goals of the
educational institution.
(d) "Supervising dentist" means a dentist who meets the
following requirements:
(1)
(A) Has an active license to practice dentistry in Kansas;
or
(B) is eligible to be licensed in Kansas and has an application
to be licensed in Kansas pending;
(2) has faculty status with an educational institution;
(3) has been assigned to a department of the educational
institution and has agreed in writing to use the department's objectives in
supervising and evaluating the work of the dental hygiene students; and
(4) has agreed in writing to confer as necessary, but at least
annually, with the department chair and educational institution administrators
to ensure that the educational activities supervised by the supervising dentist
are being conducted to achieve the educational goals of the educational
institution.
